A year after Parkland: Progress, but controversy still rages
One year ago this Thursday, a gunman opened fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, killing 17 students and staff members and injuring 17 others.
The massacre set off months of student-led protests and nationwide lobbying for action to restrict access to firearms and better protect schools.
In Pennsylvania, the tragedy spurred action on some fronts. On others, advocates for stricter gun laws say there’s been little meaningful headway.
