Vernier/NSTA Technology Awards names science and STEM winners

Vernier Software & Technology and the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) named seven innovative science and STEM teachers as winners of the 2014 Vernier/NSTA Technology Awards. The winners were selected for their use of data-collection technology using a computer, graphing calculator or other handheld device in the science classroom.

New Jersey ed tech teacher wins international award

Aleksandr Sadiwnyk, Mount Pleasant Middle School's technology education teacher, has been honored for fostering technological literacy and effective STEM education programs. At the International Technology and Engineering Educators conference, he received the Donald Maley Spirit of Excellence Outstanding Graduate Citation award.

The Chambersburg Area School District chose Nevin Greesey as its new supervisor of data collection and integration. He will be responsible for overseeing data gathering and input to fulfill mandates from the state Department of Education.

Illinois tech director earns Withrow Chief Technology Officer Award

District 214 Director of Technology Keith Bockwoldt has received the Consortium for School Networking’s 2014 Withrow National CTO Award. Bockwoldt designed the district's Educational Technology Replacement and Initiative Program and introduced a 1-to-1 program featuring 5,000 iPads for student use.

Thomas Baileys replaces Vincent Nallo, who retired in December, as the new administrative director of Career Technology Center of Lackawanna County. He faces a school with declining enrollment and takes over in the middle of an $18 million renovation project.

Brandi-Lyn Mendham will become Zeeland Public Schools' new director of curriculum and technology on May 1. The position is a blend of two vacated positions. Mendham currently works for the West Shore Education Services District.

Virginia lab instructor honored by international tech educators

Adam Kemp, lab director at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science & Technology, was named the Star of the Month by the International Technology and Engineering Educators Association. Last fall, Kemp’s students completed work on the TJ3Sat satellite, which was launched into orbit by NASA in November. It was the first spacecraft built by high school students to orbit the Earth.

Illinois school tech director moves to new district

The Forest Park school board accepted the resignation of James Eichmiller, director of instructional technology. Eichmiller, who was hired in May 2013, has accepted a job as tech director for the larger Downers Grove School District 58.
