Fractions are a learning sore spot for many students. Learning them thoroughly is important for math proficiency from upper-elementary school all the way through college.

Central Park Elementary School in Bossier City, Louisiana was announced the winner in the Screens for Schools grants program from 3M and was awarded $15,000 in new tablets for their classrooms. Vanessa Powers, a 4th grade math teacher at the school, submitted the winning essay explaining why the school was in need of new technology and how the new tablets would change the school for the better.

To recognize creative teaching using Vernier sensors with National Instruments (NI) LabVIEW software, Vernier Software & Technology is launching an engineering contest for current teachers of engineering or STEM. One high school and one college teacher will each be awarded prizes valued at $5,500 for demonstrating the most innovative uses of the technology.
