DPS Emergency Financial Manager Roy Roberts made the announcement Tuesday, saying Ross left the district to focus exclusively on the turnaround of urban high schools outside DPS.
"I can't thank Doug enough for his leadership and vision. He pushed us to stretch our thinking about how we can expand our portfolio of school options to provide our students with the best education possible in this urban landscape," Roberts said in a statement to district employees.
Ross was a well-respected and highly successful charter school operator in Detroit before he came to DPS in July 2011 as head of its charter schools office. Two months later, he was given the added duties of chief innovation officer for the district.
