Tales2Go Inc., the leading provider of streaming kids’ audiobooks to schools and parents has been awarded a Tillywig Brain Child Award. Tillywig’s mission is to provide retail buyers, news media, parents and consumers with product information and reviews of superior children’s products available in today’s marketplace. Listening to audio books raises reading scores, since proficient reading is the result of listening comprehension (i.e. vocabulary and fluency) and decoding skills. In order to be selected as a Tillywig award winner, a product must be determined to have high entertainment and/or educational value. When assessing these values, many factors are considered, including ease of first use, replay value, quality and appearance and social interaction. During the evaluation process, products are used by a number of testers in an observed focus group format.

In evaluating Tales2Go, Tillywig reviewers call Tales2Go "a striking and invaluable service" and "an exceptional asset in developing vocabulary, critical listening, fluency and comprehension skills." Tales2Go is available to families for $10/month or $100/year – on up to five computers and/or mobile devices – or bulk purchase options for educators. Tales2Go CEO William Weil comments, “We are honored to receive a Tillywig Brain Child Award. With 13 states enacting laws to hold back third graders not reading at level, almost nothing is more important than getting kids excited about and skilled at reading.” He goes on, “Tales2Go is a bit like spinach pizza; kids think they’re eating pizza (i.e. they love listening to books and stories), while parents and educators know they’re serving spinach (i.e. surrounding kids with sophisticated, spoken vocabulary is a critical ingredient in success in school).”

Tales2Go breaks new ground on both the delivery and business model of giving educators and parents’ instant access to audio books on desktops, laptops and mobile devices. For example, with Tales2Go, thousands of students can independently listen to the same book simultaneously. And some students may want to check out the physical book from the school or public library and follow along as they listen. Tales2Go is used differently depending on the age/grade, but ranges from individual to group use, with and without physical books in hand.
