Student leads Pennsylvania school board into video age

A student convinced Blackhawk School Board members to videotape their meetings and post the video to the school’s website.

Matt Young, a junior who made a presentation at Thursday’s meeting, told the board that video will increase “public access and awareness.”

Blackhawk will be the first school district in Beaver County to videotape its board meetings.

“What a step for transparency,” board member Dean Fleischman said. “They say children will change the world; we’ve got a young man who is changing the district.”

Superintendent Michelle Miller has been directed by the board to develop and implement the program, and she said Friday she does not yet have a target date for implementation.
