Springfield, Mo., schools see payoff in energy efforts

The changes weren’t dramatic but they generated more than $16,000 in savings last year.

Five Springfield schools — Field, Harrison, Parkview, Rountree and Wilson’s Creek — voluntarily curbed energy usage during the 2012-13 school year, and it paid off.

They turned off lights, unplugged appliances and programmed room temperatures. Some schools also elected to pull personal appliances, such as microwaves and coffee pots, out of classrooms.
