Richmond School Board Decides Against Closing Schools

Richmond won’t be closing any schools next year after all.

Faced with a self-imposed Friday deadline for picking two schools to shutter, the Richmond School Board opted instead to put off the cost-cutting measure.

On a 5-4 vote Monday night, the board indefinitely delayed the idea of closing schools. The vote came about two months after the board adopted the plan in an effort to shave $1 million off its operating budget.
