Ohio school district expands some busing services

Starting next week, some middle school students in the Vandalia-Butler City Schools district who were prohibited from using district school buses will be able to ride the buses again.

Financial savings from the district’s decision to outsource its busing services has allowed the district to expand transportation to and from school for some students who attend Smith and Morton Middle Schools, according to Bethany Reiff, public relations coordinator. These students live in neighborhoods that are within the district’s two-mile no-transportation zone.

In August, the district’s board of education approved a five-year contract with First Student, a Cincinnati-based transportation company, in August for an anticipated savings of $1.4 million.
