Nobody wants to be the "cupcake police'" in Hillsborough Township Schools, but one elementary school teacher says that's exactly what she'd become if she had to follow the district's new interpretation of the state's school nutrition guidelines.

Sue Dicenzo, a Woods Elementary School teacher, said she stood before the township's board of education Tuesday night as both a parent and teacher in the district to talk about food policy in the schools.

"I don't know if you've ever seen the face of a 7-year-old coming in with cupcakes for their birthday. ... I don't want the teachers that are now manning the doors to have to say, 'What's the nutritional value? Is that no more than 2 grams of saturated fat per serving?'"
Dicenzo said she recently received an email from the district's nursing supervisor, reminding teachers about food items allowed during the school day.
