New Brunswick (N.J.) Redshaw School Finally Breaks Ground

After seven years of being crammed into trailers without a playground, students of A. Chester Redshaw Elementary School were filled with glee that ground finally was broken on the reconstruction of their school. All said they anxiously await their first-ever school playground.

Demolished in 2006, the school’s construction was stalled for several years due to a lack of state funding, until legislation penned by state Sen. Bob Smith, D-17th District, authorized $3 billion for the state Schools Development Authority. The implementation of reforms to the state’s school construction program under the Christie administration also pushed the stalled project forward, said Marc Larkins, the SDA’s CEO.
