New Ala. High School Will Get Expansive Athletics Complex in Fall 2014

With the Shelby County Board of Education last week approving a $6.5 million bid for construction of the Helena High School athletic complex, Mayor Mark Hall is ready to see the city's funding and dedication pay off.

"While there will still be funds that need to be raised to put some finishing touches on the project, this will certainly go a long way toward full completion of the athletic complex at the target opening date of the high school in the fall of 2014," Hall said.

The project is utilizing the financial backing of the City of Helena, which approved a 1 percent sales tax in 2011 to repay bonds associated with the undertaking that includes land for the school and construction of the athletics complex.
