Mich. School CEO Pay Varies

As CEO of Michigan’s second-largest school district, Utica Community Schools Superintendent Christine Johns oversees the education of almost 29,000 students, supervises a workforce of nearly 3,950 employees and is responsible for a $267 million annual budget.

She holds a doctorate degree from Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass., and a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University near Baltimore.

In an education career that’s spanned more than two decades, Johns worked her way up from classroom teacher to building principal, district administrator and, since 2006, the chief executive officer of Michigan’s second-largest school district.
