LETTER: School Technology a Community Issue

Schools are increasingly embracing technology as a necessary educational tool. In talking with teachers in schools that integrate technology widely across grade levels, the developmental sequence is one that begins with establishing basic infrastructure such as high-speed wireless in every school.

Purchasing a mobile platform of laptops allows teachers to share the computers as they learn how to effectively incorporate technology into their classroom instruction.

Rather than replacing old hardware, within five years of implementation, many schools incorporate a “bring your own device” (BYOD) strategy that allows them to extend the life of their current hardware for students who may not be able to afford their own device.
