Knovation, the leader in advanced, personalized learning solutions, announced its acquisition of SideVibe from Basis Applied Technology.  Under the terms of the agreement, Knovation will enhance its personalized digital curriculum content solutions and next generation learning engagement solutions by leveraging SideVibe’s expertise and proven methodologies on effective use of digital content in the classroom.

This collaboration between SideVibe and Knovation will address some of the most pressing challenges facing K-12 district administrators today:

  • Creating a meaningful transition from print to digital curriculum
  • Meeting Common Core State Standards expectations within teaching and learning practices
  • Accommodating diverse social and academic needs of students
  • Closing the performance gap and improving learning outcomes
  • Formatively assessing understanding throughout the learning process

SideVibe enables educators to create standards-aligned lessons that combine web-based digital content, teacher-created inquiry-based learning activities, student response, and immediate teacher feedback in a single online interface. Today 10,000 teachers and students around the globe currently use SideVibe.

SideVibe was born out of Basis Applied Technology’s 18-year history of award-winning design and development of highly engaging interactive educational, game, and business applications. SideVibe’s concepts and approaches on the effective use of digital content in the classroom complement Knovation’s comprehensive collection of 330,000 digital learning resources aligned to state and Common Core State Standards.  By combining SideVibe’s lesson creation technology and Knovation digital curriculum content solutions, teachers will gain improved use of digital content within the classroom setting as well as more time and flexibility to engage students, assess understanding, and address their individual needs at the point of instruction.  Students, in turn will have the content and tools they need to take charge of their own learning.

“Knovation’s flexible digital content solutions can be targeted to meet the unique needs of learners across the learning continuum while SideVibe enables educators to create standards-aligned lessons, review student responses, and provide real-time assessments and feedback,” said Joe Grieshop, president and managing officer of Knovation. “By combining these two solutions, we are creating a perfect marriage of broad digital content with an incredibly effective means for students to actively connect to that content and the learning process, and ultimately ensure understanding and retention.”

As part of the acquisition agreement, SideVibe’s executive team will join with Knovation’s leadership team.  Scott Fearnley, president and founder of SideVibe will become Vice President of Applications, Design & Development for Knovation while co-founder Drew Murphy will provide Digital Pedagogy consulting services.

“We are delighted to be taking SideVibe to a new level by joining with Knovation,” said Fearnley.  “We will not only deliver outstanding content to teachers and students, but by gauging student comprehension and success in real time, we will be able to ensure more productive online learning experiences.”

The integration of SideVibe with Knovation’s solutions will be in beta release in mid-2013 and is scheduled for completion later this year.  Current SideVibe users will continue to have access to SideVibe in its present form.

Knovation’s digital content solution portfolio includes icurio, the only digital curriculum content solution that delivers a comprehensive collection of 330,000 digital learning resources aligned to state and Common Core standards and netTrekker Search, the company’s legacy market-leading educational search product.
