Hurricane Sandy Forces Big Changes to NYC High School Sports Calendar

Hurricane Sandy has forced high school sports leagues throughout the city to revise schedules, including playoff dates, and coaches are now being forced to come up with different ways to prepare their teams without access to fields and other facilities that have been shuttered by mass school closures.

All CHSAA soccer games, including the ‘AA’ city intersectional quarterfinals have been postponed until Tuesday, and locations of those games are still undetermined, according to citywide league chairman, Paul Gilvary. The ‘AA’ intersectional quarterfinals were supposed to be played on Sunday.

The CHSAA Class ‘A’ boys soccer league was supposed to play its first-round playoff games on Tuesday but will now be played on Tuesday, with the quarterfinals likely to be scheduled for next Thursday, Gilvary said.
