Ascend Education announced today that Fort Stockton High School would be honored at a special event to coincide with CAMT (Conference for the Advancement of Mathematics Teaching)on July 11, 2013 in San Antonio, TX. This follows the announcement that Fort Stockton High School was among three schools chosen for the 2013 Gold Medal Award.

The Gold Medal Award was established by Ascend Education in 2010 to honor the school or district that best demonstrates a dedication to ensuring that all students become successful at math. Each Gold Medal nominee used Ascend Math as their math intervention solution to assist struggling students.

“The students and educators at Fort Stockton High School have really excelled in math this year,” said Kevin Briley, CEO of Ascend Education. “Students identified as at risk of failing math spent a total of 4,132 hours in their focused RTI program which includes Ascend Math. As a result, 58% of these students grew one level or more and 27% achieved 2 or more levels.”

The Fort Stockton High School student population is 86% Hispanic, 50% At Risk and 58% economically disadvantaged. Gil-Rey Madrid, Principal of Fort Stockton High School was also the Principal at the middle school when they won the Gold Medal in 2011.

“Using Ascend Math has made a positive impact at our school,” reports Principal Madrid. “Students are able to get one on one instruction closing each individual student’s gap in math while allowing the teacher to teach at grade level. Ascend Math is an essential part of our math instruction providing highly engaging academic support for students struggling in math. Many of our students are experiencing success in math for the first time because of the integration of on grade level instruction by their teacher and the use of Ascend Math to close their learning gaps in math.”

A special event in Fort Stockton’s honor will take place at Casa Rio on the Riverwalk in San Antonio, Texas on Thursday July 11, 2013. More than 60 educators have already registered to attend the event. Parties interested in attending should contact Renata Palms at Ascend Education 1-865-8232.
