A former Middletown City Schools contract employee now stands accused of stealing 400 laptop computers from the district. Middletown police are charging 29 year old Larry A. Osborne Jr with third-degree felony theft.
Our partners at the Journal News report Osborne is accused of taking the computers from the school district beginning in 2008. If convicted, he faces up to five years in prison.
Osborne, a computer technician, was contracted to work in the district by the Butler County Educational Service Center. The 400 mostly used and non-working computers have an estimated valued of $123,000, said Superintendent Greg Rasmussen.
A employee reported to police on November 8 that about eight Apple laptop computers were missing or unaccounted for at the district’s warehouse. The department has recovered 46 of the 400 laptops.
