The board of El Rancho Unified School District has tentatively chosen a new school superintendent, board president Delia Alvidrez announced Wednesday.

Martin Galindo, currently the superintendent of Bassett Unified School District, was tapped for the El Rancho position contingent upon a "positive community visit by board members to Mr. Galindo's present school district and successful negotiations of a contract of employment," said a press release on the appointment.

"He is a leader that will accomplish our goals decisively and inclusively," Alvidrez said in the statement.

Galindo will succeed Norbert D. Genis, interim superintendent, who came out of retirement to lead the district in August 2012, following the retirement of Superintendent Myrna Rivera Cote. Genis started his career with the district in 1978 as principal of North Ranchito Elementary School and served as superintendent from January 2002 to June 2010. Because he was receiving retirement income, Genis was working for about $41,000 a year, a fraction of the normal salary for a school superintendent.
