Edgenuity, a leading provider of online and blended learning solutions, today introduced its powerful new student experience, designed to drive deeper student engagement and improve student achievement.  Available this summer, the new platform was developed to help schools and districts realize the full potential of their online and blended learning models.

Edgenuity courses are also now tablet compatible for schools and districts making tablets available to students as part of their digital strategies – a feature that is unique among online and blended learning solutions.

“Our new platform delivers an immersive, student-centered, personalized experience that ensures students will be well-prepared to succeed in college and career,” said Sari Factor, CEO of Edgenuity.  “Its development was grounded in three things: research that shows how students learn best; our experience from more than fifteen years of close interaction with students and educators; and finally our data, which shows that students who become more engaged in the curriculum achieve more.  Together, these factors create a powerful solution to help students achieve academic success.”

Based on evidence that indicates the more time spent on task, the better the academic performance, the new platform offers significant enhancements to drive student engagement and keep students actively involved in their learning experience, including:

  • eNotes – The eNotes digital notebook makes it extremely easy for students to take notes as they are listening to the on-screen teacher deliver instruction.  Students can interact with curriculum, easily capturing information and recording their own observations and questions.  The eNotes tool also lets students enter symbols, equations, and tables so they can take notes in math and science courses as well as in the humanities.
  • Lesson Glossary – Students can now easily review academic and content-area vocabulary highlighted in each lesson, look up any word they don’t know, and even add words to a personal word list for future reference.
  • Transcripts – Students can access transcripts of the direct instruction videos to follow along with the on-screen teacher.  The transcripts can be translated into 17 different languages to support students with limited English-language proficiency.
  • Tablet-Ready – Designed to foster anytime, anywhere learning and geared to today’s “digital native” students, Edgenuity courses are now available on tablets for those schools and districts adopting tablets for classroom instruction.

The new tools also complement a feature introduced by Edgenuity last year, the CloseReaderTM, a text mark-up and language support tool that supports the in-depth reading and interpretation of complex texts.  Taken together, this platform supports the shift to Common Core State Standards by promoting an enriched learning experience that enables mastery of subjects through more problem-solving and analysis.

The new platform builds on Edgenuity’s core offering of engaging online courses, with instruction delivered by highly qualified, on-screen teachers who provide direct instruction, explain concepts, model strategies and make real-world connections.  The customized instruction and ongoing feedback delivered through Edgenuity motivates students to take responsibility for their own learning and success.  As students develop the ability to manage their own learning, they build essential skills that will position them for academic, career, and life achievements.
