The Funding Year 2013 Form 470 filing window dates have been officially released. The FY2013 filing window will be open for 93 days beginning at 12:00 p.m. Eastern on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, and closing at 11:59 p.m. Eastern on Thursday, March 14, 2013.
Participating in its 16th filing window, Funds For Learning, the nation's largest E-rate compliance firm, has submitted more than $1 billion in E-rate funding requests since the program's inception.
Funding Year 2013 will follow one of the largest funding years in the history of the program. In FY2012, requests for discounts on certain communications services increased for the fourth straight year as schools and libraries across the nation requested more than $5 billion in E‑rate funds. The requested amount marked the second time in the 16-year history of the E-rate program that applicant demand has exceeded the $5 billion threshold.
"Program demand continues to rise as E-rate applicants expand wireless infrastructures and initiate [Bring Your Own Device] programs," said Stephen Sharp, senior compliance analyst at Funds For Learning. "There is little indication that demand will deviate from its current upward trajectory."
The last day to submit a Form 471 and still wait the required 28 days before selecting a service provider by the window closing is Feb. 14, 2013.
"We are glad to see the window open earlier than usual," said Sharp. "However, applicants will need to be mindful of the school closings that may fall around the time of the closing of the window and plan accordingly."
