Donald Oakes Returns to School in Miss.

Whenever faced with impending leadership voids during the past 13 years, Vicksburg Warren School District has turned to one man for transitional guidance.

Donald Oakes, 73, was selected to lead the district for the fourth time while school board members select a replacement for Superintendent Elizabeth Swinford, who had just announced she was resigning June 14 to take a position as superintendent at Tuscaloosa County School District in Alabama.

"I'll do what I can as long as I can," said Oakes, who retired from the district in 2003 after 41 years in public education.

The school board asked Oakes to take the reins of the district again because of experience, said school board president Jim Stirgus Jr.
