Detroit Parents Explore Options as Charter, Private and Public Schools Woo Students

Chiquita Hall has purchased her first home in the city of Detroit and wants to support her surroundings as much as she can.

But deciding between among education options for her three children -- two daughters, one son -- has been a challenge so far. "I wasn't satisfied when I had my daughter in public schools," Hall said while browsing offerings at the Excellent Schools Detroit recruitment fair on Saturday.

But Hall, whose two younger children are ready for kindergarten and pre-kindergarten, didn't rule public schools out. "Now that I'm a homeowner in the city, I want to keep my kids in the city," she said.
