He has not officially taken the reins just yet, but incoming Dallas Independent School District superintendent Mike Miles is making big changes — starting at the top. The DISD has announced that it will be restructuring leadership staff, which means that dozens of positions will be eliminated.

The announcement said that restructuring means “changes in the direction and changes in how the district operates.”

The plan — called Destination 2020 — calls for the restructuring of 80 positions in the district’s school leadership division. Those spots will be scaled down to just 36 new positions. All employees will “have the opportunity to apply for the positions created under the new plan.” Many of the jobs that are being eliminated are currently vacant — positions that were never filled as past administrators left the district.

A notice for DISD employees and the community said that 20 executive director positions will be posted. Those individuals will provide support to principals in the district’s feeder patterns.
