Construction begins on Basis (Ariz.) school expansion for grades K-4

Basis Charter School is rebuilding its facility at 3825 E. Second Street as it prepares to welcome kindergarten through fourth-grade students in August.

The nationally recognized charter school will reopen a larger, two-story building to accommodate students from the lower elementary grades, who will attend school with fifth and sixth-graders.

The school decided to expand its Second Street campus after it bought an adjacent property that belonged to Desert Springs Academy, which moved to another location, said Jason Shorbe, head of school for Basis Tucson.

The new building will hold about 840 students, Shorbe said.
