In-classroom shelters now available for tornadoes and shooters

National Safety Shelters, authorized distributor for Hide-Away Safety Shelters, has debuted a safe-room designed to fit right into school classrooms. These safe-rooms offer protection from the forces of EF5 tornadoes as well as handguns, shotguns and even armor piercing ammunition. The Quitman School District will be the first district in Arkansas to install the shelters.

For school districts located in “Tornado Alley”, a new solution to school safety is beginning to turn heads. National Safety Shelters, authorized distributor for Hide-Away Safety Shelters has announced the availability of an American-made safe-room designed to fit right into school classrooms. These safe-rooms offer near-absolute protection from the destructive forces of EF5 tornadoes as well as handguns, shotguns and even armor piercing ammunition. Hide-Away Safety Shelters are a life-saving option that can be used in conjunction with other school security measures.

With a saferoom in each classroom, students can now attend school with an unprecedented level of security that no other safety measure can equal.

Due to the modular construction of these safety shelters, virtually any size or configuration can be produced. Standard sizes are available to protect from 10 to 35 students and more. Larger rooms such as cafeterias and gymnasiums can also be accommodated with a shelter to protect even hundreds of students and staff.

The shelters are manufactured in Harrisonville, Missouri and constructed of ¼” thick American steel. Originally designed to protect against EF5 tornadoes, the shelters have been modified to provide NIJ Level IIIA protection against hand guns and shotguns. An upgrade to NIJ Level III military grade steel (used in combat vehicles) is available for enhanced protection from high caliber and armor piercing rounds. They are designed as a bolt together kit for easy assembly and require virtually no maintenance.

The average cost is about $15,000-20,000 per classroom. With a near-unlimited useful lifespan and zero operating costs, the Hide-Away Safety Shelter offers an effective, economical solution to the current dilemma of school safety.
