Ruth Rathblott was appointed chief executive officer of the Harlem Educational Activities Fund, an academic enrichment program for underserved students. Her goal is to expand its reach and further its mission to help New York City’s low-income students enter and graduate college.

Under Superintendent Gene Dudo, Arizona’s Glendale Union High School District was awarded College Board’s Advanced Placement District of the Year. GUHSD is the nation’s leading medium-sized district in expanding access in AP courses and improving AP exam performance.
Susan Heidt, technology director of Monticello (Minn.) Public Schools, won the 2012 TIES (an education technology collaborative) Minnesota Technology Leader award for outstanding achievement in implementing technology to improve education.
Greg Smith, superintendent of Clear Creek (Texas) ISD, was named the 2012-2013 Administrator of the Year by the Texas Classroom Teachers Association for exemplary leadership and building relationships across the community.
D.C. Public Schools Chancellor Kaya Henderson launched a master’s degree program at Georgetown University as part of an effort to improve leadership in the city’s schools. A group of 25 principals began participating in January.
