Healthier Lunches

Chef Ann Cooper and her Food, Family, Farming Foundation have launched the Lunch Box, a new Web site to help schools transition from serving highly processed meals to offering fresher and healthier options.

New Commissioner

Terry Holliday, North Carolina’s 2009 Superintendent of the Year, is Kentucky’s new education commissioner. He had been superintendent of Iredell-Statesville Schools, a district with over 20,000 students, since 2002.

Anti-Violence Plan

Chicago Public Schools CEO Ron Huberman has announced a plan to curb youth violence that includes identifying the 200 students most likely to be shot, connecting them with mentors, and giving them part-time jobs.

New Superintendent

Saying that Cambridge (Mass.) Public Schools has the potential to be “the best urban school district in the country,” Jeffrey Young has taken the helm of the 6,000-student district after serving for 11 years as superintendent in nearby Newton.
